Stonesoft receives HP ArcSight CEF Certification for StoneGate network security solutions

One of the first security vendors to offer full CEF support

Helsinki, Finland – 20 June, 2011 – Stonesoft today announced that StoneGate network security solutions have received Common Event Format (CEF) Certification from ArcSight, Inc., an HP company and a leading global provider of security and compliance management solutions that protect enterprises and government agencies. Stonesoft is one of the first security vendors worldwide to offer full support for CEF.

StoneGate Log Server can be configured to forward StoneGate FW/VPN, IPS and SSL VPN logs to ArcSight in CEF format. This streamlines and simplifies the integration of StoneGate product family event logs with the Arcsight Enterprise Threat and Risk Management (ETRM) platform.

“The CEF Certification is a further manifestation of our strategic commitment to provide our customers with the most advanced network security tools. Situational awareness is the key to protecting your network. Our customers can now benefit from streamlined interfaces between different network security appliances, resulting in increased visibility and understanding of what is going on in the network”, said Antti Kuvaja, Director, Product Management at Stonesoft.

“To understand and counter malicious threats, IT administrators must rely on both network and security information,” said Dan Barahona, director of Business Development at ArcSight. “With Stonesoft’s advanced centralized management and the Enterprise Threat and Risk Management solution from ArcSight, organizations gain critical, up-to-date information about the status of their network security.”

The Common Event Format (CEF) is an open log management standard that improves the interoperability of security-related information from different security and network devices and applications. CEF is based on expertise from building support for over 275 products across more than 35 solution categories and is the first log management standard to support a broad range of device types. CEF enables technology companies and customers to use a common event log format so that data can easily be collected and aggregated for analysis by an enterprise management system.

In addition to being capable of sending logs in CEF format, StoneGate Management Center can also receive logs in CEF format. This complements the third-party event management functionalities of StoneGate Management Center, making it easier to receive logs from CEF-compatible devices. The new predefined CEF logging profile is available in the new StoneGate Management Center 5.3 released in May 2011.
