Stonesoft managed the overall network security successfully
at the World Summit on the Information Society (COSMSI)
Stonesoft was a main partner and offered network security expertise and knowledge to the World
Summit on the Information Society (COSMSI) held in Tunis in November 2005. National delegations
from 174 countries and participants from more than 800 entities including UN agencies, private
sector companies and civil society organizations attended the summit. All in all 20 000
participants took part in this huge three-day event. Stonesoft took care of the network security
with its StoneGate Firewall and IPS.
Stonesoft ensured the global connections during the summit and supported by its own input the
equal access to information. The ensuring of a secure and reliable network was of major importance
and first priority during this remarkable event, where several hundred thousand suspicious events
were detected in the network.

Layer It Up
It's hard to imagine all of the possible threats to a network. It seems as though there are
endless internal and external vulnerabilities that must be accounted for. It's become clear that
the best possible solution to address these concerns is a layered defense approach.
Read the whole article regarding layered defense written by Klaus Majewski, IPS product manager
at Stonesoft. In the article Majewski discusses, among other things, about the challenge of
managing multiple layers.

Stonesoft is Securing Data from CERN
CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, is using Stonesoft´s security products to
ensure the network security of open Grid network and LHC project. CERN is building a new large
Hadron Collider (LHC) to create and collect information about materia. Stonesoft is working with
CERN to analyze the data coming from LHC to Grid network.
The LHC is the flagship project for the world's particle physics community. Experiments at the
LHC will allow physicists to complete a journey that started with Newton's description of gravity.
Gravity acts on mass, but so far science is unable to explain why the fundamental particles have
the masses they have. Experiments at the LHC may provide the answer. LHC experiments will also
probe the mysterious missing mass and dark energy of the universe – visible matter seems to account
for just 5% of what must exist. They will investigate the reason for nature's preference for matter
over antimatter, and they will probe matter as it existed at the very beginning of time.
More information about the case will be provided later on.
