Centrally managed virtual security solution ensures network security and business continuity
Helsinki, Finland – 27 February 2008 – Stonesoft, an innovative
provider of integrated network security and business continuity solutions, introduces a
comprehensive StoneGate Security Solution for VMware virtual environments. The first virtual
appliance, StoneGate Firewall/VPN, protects the network and ensures business continuity in both
virtual and physical network environments. The virtual StoneGate Security Solution stands out
through its unified management and multiple deployment possibilities, allowing organizations to
significantly reduce the costs and environmental impact of their IT infrastructure.
“The StoneGate Security Solution for VMware virtual environments stands out through its
flexible deployment possibilities and advanced manageability”, said
Pentti Lehtinen, Director, Product Management at Stonesoft.
“Whereas regular, hardware-based firewalls do not run in virtual environments, StoneGate
Firewall/VPN, as well as other virtual StoneGate appliances can be deployed in virtual as well as
regular network environments. Moreover, all virtual StoneGate appliances can be managed with the
same centralized management as the other components in the network security solution. This brings
organizations significant cost savings, flexibility and sustainability.”
Virtual appliances provide organizations enhanced manageability and flexibility: new machines
can be easily created and redundant ones destroyed. Moreover, they help organizations to reduce the
environmental burden of their IT infrastructure through improved energy-efficiency and significant
reductions in the need for server room space and hardware equipment.
The virtual StoneGate Firewall/VPN appliance functions like a regular firewall, protecting
the servers in the virtual network, preventing attacks and securing data communications with
Virtual Private Networks (VPN). The appliance can be used both in virtual machines and physical
network environments.
StoneGate Security Solution for virtual environments is particularly attractive for Managed
Service Providers (MSP), enabling them to manage several customer networks and appliances with just
one server. Moreover, the virtual appliances can be installed at any location in the virtual
networks, so they can be used to protect the traffic between consolidated servers in virtual
environments. With StoneGate Management Center, the corporate security policy can be consistently
enforced in both the virtual and physical network environments.
Stonesoft has recently become a member of the VMware Technology Alliance Partner (TAP)
Program. See press release issued on 27 February 2008:

The StoneGate Security Solution for VMware virtual environments will be complemented by a
