Press Release
Swisscom Mobile relies on StoneGate High Availability Firewall for Multi-Layer Defense
StoneGate Firewall was the only security solution on the market that could meet the high demands of Swisscom Mobiles complex network architecture.
Helsinki, 2 February 2007 - Stonesoft Corp. (HEX: SFT1V),
an innovative provider of integrated network security and business continuity solutions, announces
that the Swiss market leading telecom operator Swisscom Mobile has selected the StoneGate Firewall
to protect its complex network architecture with four security levels.
Mobile operators have uniquely high demands when it comes to network security and business
continuity since network downtime or security threats to data or applications can have fatal
consequences to their business. Swisscom Mobile needed a scalable solution that would provide them
with optimal security and allow them to quickly adapt to new technology demands. Swisscom Mobile’s
network architecture comprises four security zones, with PCs and laptops strictly separated from
the other, critical network areas.
“With our new four-level security concept we can guarantee our customers optimal data
security. However, it sets tough demands on the security solution. The scalability of the solution
was a make or break criterion for us: while each level needs a firewall that functions
independently from the others, the solution must be flexible enough to allow us to respond to the
development of our core technologies,“ explains
Roy Culley, Expert in Swisscom Mobile's Network Management
department.
StoneGate was the only Firewall/VPN solution available that enables access to multiple
Internet and VPN connections across multiple ISPs, leased lines, or other connections, taking
account of both inbound and outbound traffic.
“The StoneGate Firewall met all our demands to the fullest“, says Culley. “The solution plays
a crucial role as the main guard in our complex network security architecture.“
Centralized management enables shorter reaction times, less workload and lower administration
costs
StoneGate Firewalls and IPS have built-in clustering and load balancing. Clustering
ensures the high availability, thus allowing uninterrupted operations during system maintenance and
updates. StoneGate's load balancing capabilities allow dynamically balanced connections between
cluster nodes, transparently transferring connections to available nodes in case a node becomes
overloaded or fails. These capabilities are crucial in protecting Swisscom Mobile’s complex,
high-volume network.
StoneGate Management Center allows the administrators at Swisscom Mobile to manage several
independently working firewalls through a single, centralized management system with advanced
features such as simple remote upgrades, alarm center management and numerous reporting functions.
All this results in shorter reaction times, less workload, lower cost of everyday administration
and thus a significantly lower total cost of ownership.
“The fact that Swisscom Mobile chose the StoneGate Firewall proves once again we are
delivering the market’s most advanced firewall technology,“ says
Hermann Klein, Country Manager of Stonesoft Corporation in
Germany, Austria and Switzerland. “Very few companies have such high security demands as Swisscom
Mobile, so we have reason to be proud that StoneGate was selected.“
