Brink’s France is organised according to three main business lines:
In today’s electronic
banking market, customers increasingly need to have access to their valuables and to their funds
orders in real time. To stand out in this highly competitive market, Brink’s France must provide
excellent service in real time. And to achieve this, it must have a high-availability information
system.
When it re-designed its IT infrastructure, Brink’s France’s goal was to improve its architecture; to accomplish this, Internet links were duplicated. The company was also looking for a comprehensive solution that offered clustering capabilities.
After studying the market and with the help of our integrator partner, DCI, Brink’s France
selected the Stonesoft products. During the modelling phase, the various performance levels of
these solutions were measured.
We were attracted by the high availability qualities of the Stonesoft solutions, which offer a great deal of flexibility and load sharing of Internet links for all of Brink’s France’s applications. Stonesoft definitely won us over when we discovered the centralised administration console and its very attractive price in the competitive security market,
Before any integration, several preliminary requirements had to be met, such as facilities management and compatibility with hardware already integrated and in use at Brink’s France. In fact, Stonesoft software applications run directly on the hardware installed at the company. For three to four months, a modelling phase was needed to transfer the Internet links, electronic messaging and secure connections and to move to production.
After verification of operation, migration of critical applications was completed in one month. At that time, the DCI integrator copied all the rules and filter bases and the translation rules and installed them in the same way on the new product.
Brink’s France also needed secure connections between its remote sites and opted for the VPN multi-link functionality offered by Stonesoft. This type of functionality makes it possible to connect remote sites that cannot be connected otherwise.
All the integration
phases of the Stonesoft solutions went smoothly. The high level of transparency offered by this
type of cluster ensures better availability for customers and allows them to perform maintenance
operations without any service interruption.
The benefits are real. The IT teams can maintain the Internet links and the various infrastructure elements thanks to the high availability of the firewalls without any interruption for customers or the Brink’s staff. Business Continuity Plan management is made easier, as is modelling of software updates. The administration console makes it simple to manage the infrastructure with minimum resources.
We were specifically looking for mono-site or multi-site clustering capabilities. Stonesoft provided the perfect solution to our needs and even went a step further with the fully integrated and optimised features of its centralised administration solution. This solution allows fully transparent management of the entire infrastructure of Stonesoft’s products.- Christophe Belmont, IT Security Manager at Brink’s France
In the future, Brink’s France plans to expand its remote site equipment in order to increase the operating environment of its applications.
