Main Drivers for IT and Security Infrastructure

Citizens and businesses require better access to governmental information and services. More often this access is required around the clock, as people need access to official documents, forms, contact information, and various decisions and plans made by the government at any level.

People no longer accept unjustified bureaucracy, unnecessary long response times and redundant work caused by inefficient government systems that do not allow sharing information.

More and more, these activities are driven by directives that promote e-Government. The improved services are vital in the attempt to improve government responsiveness and to reduce the administrative overhead caused by government regulations.

Public services face a constant need to improve their effectiveness. Through the effective use of IT it is possible to improve quality and speed while increasing productivity and reducing costs. This often requires sharing information between the government organizations. International cooperation in areas such as trade, crime prevention, and national security require reliable communications across national borders.

Agencies aim to eliminate redundancies, to automate processes, and to have the right information at the right time in the right place to support better decision-making.

Inside government, organizations' internal systems are being developed to offer better support for daily routines as well as for unexpected events.

Governmental agencies at all levels possess and administrate tremendous amounts of information about citizens, places, things and events. This information may concern, among others, the following:

  • Education
  • Healthcare
  • Justice
  • Public safety
  • Social security
  • National defense
  • Foreign policy
  • Transportation
  • Taxation

Governments need to gather and store this data and use it in various ways while protecting it from disclosure, modification and loss.
